Research and Analysis on the DPRK Leadership
The DPRK commemorated the end of active hostilities of the Fatherland Liberation (Korean) War on 27 July 1953. Kim Jong Il (Kim Cho’ng-il) was reported to have attended a performance given by the State Merited Chorus. He attended performances by the same troupe on the same anniversary in 1998, 2009 and 2010.
Warmly acknowledging the enthusiastic cheers of the audience, he heartily congratulated them on the war victory day.
Its repertoire included male chorus “Song Devoted to Marshal Kim Il Sung”, orchestral music and male chorus “Pass Mungyong”, male chorus “Song of a Truck Driver”, female solo and male chorus “Nobody Knows”, male solo and male chorus “For My Only Motherland”, collection of songs “We Are Going in for the Care of the Leader”, “Where Are You, Dear General” and “O, What Type of Man Is Party Member” from the revolutionary opera “A Story of a Nurse” and male chorus “Road of Victory”.
The performers sang high praises of the shining feats the army and people of the DPRK performed by beating back the U.S.-led imperialist allied forces for the first time in history and honorably defending the freedom and independence of the country under the wise leadership of President Kim Il Sung. They successfully represented the faith and pledge of all the servicepersons to turn the cheers of war victory into fireworks of victory for national reunification under the leadership of Kim Jong Il.
KJI also attended a banquet jointly hosted by the CMC and NDC, which included a speech by Ri Yong Ho (Ri Yo’ng-ho). Ri spoke again on Tuesday (26 July), a national report meeting was held at Pyongyang Indoor Stadium. Ri’s report was rhetorically understated in contrast to last year’s stemwinder.
The reporter urged all the servicepersons and people to resolutely smash the vicious and reckless anti-DPRK confrontational moves of the U.S. imperialists and the Lee Myung-bak [group and bring about a decisive turn in building a thriving socialist country and accomplishing the cause of national reunification under the songun leadership of the great Party.
A touch-and-go situation is now prevailing on the Korean Peninsula due to the heinous political and military provocations committed by the South Korean group of traitors and its military hooligans under the patronage of the U.S., he noted, saying: The Lee Myung-bak group of traitors has got hell-bent on the confrontation with the DPRK in disregard of the DPRK’s sincere efforts for peace and reunification. It is committing in succession such never-to-be-condoned treacherous and anti-reunification actions as persistently insulting the dignity of the DPRK’s leadership and slandering its system and the army.
The revolutionary armed forces of the DPRK have regarded the reckless moves of the group adding to the hideous crimes against the nation as a declaration of a new war. With arms of justice for retaliation they will wipe out the group of traitors without parallel from this land and surely accomplish the historic cause of national reunification at an earlier date.
