DPRK Delegation Visits Laos

DPRK and Lao state media reported that a delegation led by Korean Workers’ Party Secretary and International Department Director Kim Yong Il (Kim Yo’ng-il) arrived in the country on 6 June (Wednesday) for a three day trip.  Laos was the first stop for Kim and his delegation who are on a three-nation sojourn in southeast Asian countries which will also include visits to Vietnam and Myanmar (Burma).  On Thursday (7 June), Kim and the delegation met with Bounthong Chitmany, a Secretary of the Lao People’s Revolutionary Party [LPRP] and chairman of its control commission.  KCNA reports:

Boun Thong Chitmani, member of the Political Bureau and secretary of the Central Committee and chairman of the Control Committee of the Lao People’s Revolutionary Party, Thursday met a delegation of the Workers’ Party of Korea (WPK) led by Kim Yong Il, alternate member of the Political Bureau and secretary of the Central Committee of the WPK, on a visit to Laos.

The chairman extended warm congratulations to the dear respected Kim Jong Un on his election as first secretary of the WPK and first chairman of the National Defence Commission of the DPRK.

The traditional friendly and cooperative relations between the two parties and countries provided by Kaysone Phomvihane and President Kim Il Sung have grown stronger generation after generation, he said.

Kim and the delegation also met with Lao Vice Premier and Minister of Foreign Affairs Thongloun Sisoulith on Thursday.  KCNA reports:

Talks between the delegations of the Workers’ Party of Korea (WPK) and the Lao People’s Revolutionary Party (LPRP) took place in Vientiane on Thursday.

Present at the talks from the DPRK side were members of the WPK delegation led by Kim Yong Il, alternate member of the Political Bureau and secretary of the C.C., the WPK, and DPRK Ambassador to Laos Han Pong Ho and from the Lao side Vice Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Thongloun Sisoulith, member of the Political Bureau of the C.C., the LPRP who is also chairman of its Committee for External Affairs, Sounthon Sayachak, member of the C.C., the LPRP who is also the vice-chairman of its Committee for External Affairs and vice-minister of Foreign Affairs of Laos, and others.

At the talks the two sides informed each other of their party activities and exchanged views on the issue of developing the friendly and cooperative relations between the two parties and on matters of mutual concern.

Thongloun Sisoulith extended warm congratulations to Kim Jong Un upon his election as first secretary of the WPK and first chairman of the DPRK National Defence Commission.

Finally, Kim Yong Il and the delegation met with Choummaly Sayasone, Lao President and the LPRP’s leading official.  President Sayasone visited the DPRK in September 2011 and met with a Korean People’s Army delegation that visited Laos during 8-11 May 2012.

The DPRK with a solid economic foundation and potential will successfully accomplish the cause of building a thriving socialist nation.

President of Laos Choummaly Sayasone who is general secretary of the Central Committee of the Lao People’s Revolutionary Party said this on Thursday when receiving a delegation of the Workers’ Party of Korea led by Kim Yong Il, alternate member of the Political Bureau and secretary of the Central Committee of the WPK, on a visit to Laos.

He recalled that leader Kim Jong Il performed undying exploits for the country and its people.

He expressed conviction that the socialist cause in the DPRK is sure to be accomplished because the dear respected Kim Jong Un has creditably carried forward the cause of President Kim Il Sung and Kim Jong Il.

The Lao president wished Kim Jong Un greater success in his noble work.
