KWP Delegation Returns After Myanmar Visit

DPRK state media reported on 20 June (Wednesday) that a Korean Workers’ Party [KWP] delegation headed by KWP Secretary and International Department Director Kim Yong Il returned to Pyongyang, after visiting three countries in southeast Asia.  The delegation’s final stop was in Myanmar.  On 14 June Kim and the delegation, joined by DPRK Ambassador to Myanmar Kim  Sok Chol, met with a group from Myanmar’s majority Union Solidarity and Development Party [USDP].  During the meeting the Organizational Secretary and acting chairman of the USDP “expressed the will to further develop the friendly and cooperative relations between the two parties and the two countries in the future,” according to KCNA.  On 16 June, Kim and the delegation met with Lt. Gen. Myint Swe, first minister of Yangon and a member of the USDP’s executive committee.  During the meeting, Myint Swe said that “the friendly relations between the two countries forged by leaders of Myanmar and President Kim Il Sung are favorably developing,” according to KCNA.

KCNA reported on Kim Yong Il’s meeting with the USDP acting chairman and Organizational Secretary:

Talks were held between the delegations of the Workers’ Party of Korea and the Union Solidarity and Development Party, Union of Myanmar in Myanmar on June 14.

Present there from the WPK side were members of the delegation headed by Kim Yong Il, alternate member of the Political Bureau and secretary of the Central Committee of the WPK, and Kim Sok Chol, DPRK ambassador to Myanmar and from the Myanmar party side were the members of the delegation headed by the organizational secretary who is a member of the Central Executive Committee of the party.

At the talks both sides informed each other of their party activities and exchanged views on boosting the friendly and cooperative ties between the two parties and on other issues of mutual concern.

The organizational secretary, on behalf of the party, government and people of Myanmar, sincerely hoped that the dear respected Kim Jong Un would lead the Korean people to shining victory.

The DPRK turned into an invincible power under the guidance of President Kim Il Sung and leader Kim Jong Il, peerlessly great men, he stressed. It is a great fortune of the Korean people to hold Kim Jong Un in high esteem as supreme leader.

Noting that WPK’s visit to Myanmar is a token of support and solidarity for the Union Solidarity and Development Party, Union of Myanmar, the organizational secretary voiced his determination to activate cooperation and exchange between the two parties.

KCNA reported about the acting chairman’s remarks on DPRK-Myanmar relations to Kim and the delegation:

The acting chairman of the Union Solidarity and Development Party, Union of Myanmar said he expressed profound thanks to the dear respected Kim Jong Un for paying deep attention to the development of the relations between the two parties and the two countries.

He said this when meeting and having a friendly talk with the delegation of the Workers’ Party of Korea headed by Kim Yong Il, alternate member of the Political Bureau and secretary of the C.C., the WPK, on a visit to the country on June 14.

No one can match the single-minded unity achieved by President Kim Il Sung and leader Kim Jong Il, he noted.

He voiced conviction that Kim Jong Un would lead the Korean people to greater victory and prosperity.

He expressed the will to further develop the friendly and cooperative relations between the two parties and the two countries in the future.

KCNA reported on Kim and the delegation’s interaction with Lt. Gen. Myint Swe:

A member of the Central Executive Committee of the Union Solidarity and Development Party, Union of Myanmar and prime minister of the Yangon Regional Government on June 16 met and had a friendly talk with the visiting delegation of the Workers’ Party of Korea headed by Kim Yong Il, alternate member of the Political Bureau and secretary of the Central Committee of the WPK.

At the meeting the prime minister of the Yangon Regional Government said he was pleased that the cause of President Kim Il Sung and leader Kim Jong Il is being successfully carried forward by the dear respected Kim Jong Un.

The friendly relations between the two countries forged by leaders of Myanmar and President Kim Il Sung are favorably developing, he said, adding the peoples of the two countries are struggling to protect their sovereignty and achieve socio-economic development despite the U.S. sanctions and pressure.

The DPRK has military power so strong that no one dares provoke it, he said.

He expressed belief that the DPRK would win shining victory in building an economic power, too, as a political and military power under the leadership of Kim Jong Un.
