Jang Song Taek Delivers Floral Wreath and Condolence Message to Family Members of the Rev. Sun Myung Moon

DPRK state media reported on 7 September (Friday) that Jang Song Taek (Chang So’ng-t’aek), Vice Chairman of the National Defense Commission [NDC] presented a floral wreath and condolence message, on behalf of Kim Jong Un (Kim Cho’ng-u’n), to family members of Rev. Sun Myung Moon (Mun So’n-myo’ng), the 92-year old head of the Unification Church who passed away in ROK on 3 September (Monday).  Rev. Moon was born in Cho’ngju, North P’yo’ngan Province.  Despite a lifelong antipathy toward communism, Rev. Moon met with the late DPRK founder and president Kim Il Sung (Kim Il-so’ng) and the Unification Church owned and operated several businesses in the DPRK including Pyonghwa Motors.

The presentation ceremony took place in Pyongyang where Rev. Moon’s youngest son and successor, Moon Hyung Jin (Mun Hyo’ng-jin) and other Unification Church officials traveled (via Kaeso’ng) to receive condolence calls.  Attending the presentation with Jang Song Taek was Kim Yang Gon (Kim Yang-kon), Korean Workers’ Party Secretary and Director of the United Front Department [UFD].  According to KCNA, Jang “courteously conveyed to him the deep condolences expressed by Marshal Kim Jong Un over the passing of Moon” and “Moon Hyung Jin was deeply moved by the fact that Kim Jong Un sent a message of condolences, a wreath and words of consolation over the passing of Moon Sun Myung. He extended his warmest thanks to Kim Jong Un.”  At a separate ceremony at the Mansudae Assembly Hall on Friday, Rev. Moon was posthumously awarded the DPRK’s National Reunification Prize, “who positively contributed to the patriotic cause for the peaceful reunification of the country and the prosperity common to the nation.”

KCNA reports:

A wreath sent by the dear respected Marshal Kim Jong Un to the bier of Moon Sun Myung was conveyed to his bereaved family on Friday.

It was conveyed to Moon Hyung Jin who is a member of the bereaved family of Moon Sun Myung, by Jang Song Thaek, vice-chairman of the DPRK National Defence Commission, and Kim Yang Gon, secretary of the C.C., the Workers’ Party of Korea.

Jang Song Thaek courteously conveyed to him the deep condolences expressed by Marshal Kim Jong Un over the passing of Moon.

Moon Hyung Jin was deeply moved by the fact that Kim Jong Un sent a message of condolences, a wreath and words of consolation over the passing of Moon Sun Myung. He extended his warmest thanks to Kim Jong Un.

Present on the occasion was a person concerned of the funeral committee from south side.

A ceremony for awarding the National Reunification Prize to Moon Sun Myung was held at the Mansudae Assembly Hall that day.

Present there were Thae Hyong Chol, secretary general of the Presidium of the Supreme People’s Assembly, officials concerned, members of the bereaved families of the deceased and persons concerned.

After a decree of the Presidium of the SPA of the DPRK was read out, the prize awarding to Moon Sun Myung who positively contributed to the patriotic cause for the peaceful reunification of the country and the prosperity common to the nation was conveyed to Moon Hyung Jin.

The member of the bereaved family of the deceased and the person concerned of the funeral committee arrived in Pyongyang Friday via Kaesong.
