KPA Meeting Rallies to Improve Pyongyang Parks

DPRK state media reported on 18 October (Thursday) that officers and service members of the Korean People’s Army [KPA] met in Pyongyang ahead a major improvement project of the city’s parks and open space.  The KPA’s effort to improve Pyongyang parks follows major renovations conducted by the KPA at the Mangyo’ngdae and Taeso’ngsan amusements parks and river excavation and infrastructure work at the Hapjang River in the city Ryongso’ng Distict and the Pot’ong River in the city centre.  Minister of the People’s Armed Forces, VMar Kim Jong Gak and other senior KPA commanders presided over the meeting.  After a report was delivered KPA officers and service members delivered speeches which “called for thoroughly applying the principle of keeping convenience ahead of aesthetic character and making people look back and boast the feats performed by the service members,” according to KCNA.  KCNA also reported that the speeches noted that “though the projects are difficult and vast, Pyongyang will turn into a more beautiful city thanks to the wise leadership of Kim Jong Un and his meticulous care and the might of the great unity.”

On 18 October, Jong Song Il reported in Rodong Sinmun that a majority of the river dredging work in the Pot’ong River had been completed and that KPA personnel had begun to renovate the river embankment.  According Jong’s report “removed a large amount of sludge in a week after the start of the project and are now speeding up the project of stone masonry and improvement of the surroundings in the final stage”  and “service personnel are in high spirit to finish the assigned tasks on the highest level of quality and thus repay the deep trust of Marshal Kim Jong Un.”
