62nd Anniversary of CPV Korean War Participation Commemorated

DPRK state media reported on 25 October (Thursday) that DPRK and Chinese officials participated in a wreath-laying ceremony at the Friendship Tower in Pyongyang in commemoration of the 62nd anniversary of the Chinese People’s Volunteers’ entry in the Fatherland Liberation War (Korean War).  Attending from the DPRK were: Kim Yong Dae, Vice President of the Supreme People’s Assembly Presidium (standing committee) and Chairman of the Korean Social Democratic Party Central Committee; Choe Chang Sik, Minister of Public Health and Chairman of the DPRK-China Friendship Association Central Committee; Kim Song Nam, deputy (vice) director of the Korean Workers’ Party [KWP] International Affairs Department; Col. Gen. Kang Pyo Yong, Vice Minister of the People’s Armed Forces; Han Nam Chol, Vice Minister of People’s Security; and, Kim Hyong Jun, Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs.

Attending from the PRC were: PRC Ambassador to the DPRK Liu Hongcai; PRC Vice Minister of Civil Affairs Dou Yupei, accompanied by a delegation of that ministry; and, Li Shumin, Deputy Secretary of the Dandong Municipal Committee of the Liaoning Provincial Committee of the Communist Party of China [CPC] and a delegation from that committee.  Also in attendance were various Pyongyang citizens, unnamed DPRK officials, invited guests from China and Chinese citizens studying in the DPRK.

Floral wreaths were presented before the Friendship Tower.  A wreath was delivered, jointly, on behalf of the KWP Central Committee, the SPA Presidium and the DPRK Cabinet.  DPRK institutions also reported to have sent wreaths to the ceremony included the Ministry of the People’s Armed Forces, the Ministry of People’s Security, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Foreign Trade, the Ministry of Culture, the Korean Committee for Cultural Relations with Foreign Countries, the Pyongyang City (municipal) KWP Committee and the Pyongyang City People’s Committee.  Wreaths presented on behalf of Chinese institution were from the PRC Embassy in the DPRK, the PRC Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Chinese People’s Liberation Army’s General Political Department, the PRC Ministry of Finance, the PRC Ministry of Civil Affairs, the Dandong Municipal Committee, the Liaoning Provincial Committee of the CPC, and the Association of Chinese Residents in Korea’s Central Committee.

According to KCNA, “participants observed a moment’s silence in memory of the fallen fighters of the CPV, before going round the tower.”  KCNA also reported that floral wreaths were delivered to CPV Cemeteries in Pyongyang’s Hyo’ngjesan District , the city of Anju, the city of Kaeso’ng and Onsong County in North Hamgyo’ng Province.
