DPRK Premier Visits State Sciences Academy

DPRK state media reported on 20 November (Tuesday) that DPRK Cabinet Premier Choe Yong Rim visited the State Academy of Sciences.  Choe’s first stop at the academy was a “field survey” of the Central Mining Institute where, according to KCNA, he “discussed the issue of producing and using useful minerals in a comprehensive way.”

Choe visited a series of departments and institutes of the State Academy of Sciences.  According KCNA Choe said “Leadership feats performed by the peerlessly great persons of Mt. Paektu shine long as they founded the State Academy of Sciences during the Fatherland Liberation War and developed into the leading science research center which ensures building of prosperous country with latest science and technology and promoting the industry revolution in the new century.”  Choe “greatly encouraged scientists and technicians in their drive to make innovations in scientific researches and called upon them to take the lead in the drive to push back the frontiers of latest science and technology, bearing deep in mind the trust and expectation of the Workers’ Party of Korea.”

After his tour Choe convened a meeting with the academy’s managers and other officials.  KCNA reported during the meeting that “technical measures for preferentially supplying equipment and raw materials needed for scientific researches and face-lifting the Unjong area of science” were initiated.  Choe also visited the State Academy of Sciences 413 Institute.  At the institute Choe Yong Rim “learned in detail about the fact that the institute spruced up the compound of it with its own efforts and produced efficient and pollution-free composite fuel with rich materials in our country to enjoy good repute from people and the prospect of future.”  According to KCNA, Choe “discussed the issue of building the production base of the composite fuel in local areas and production of water sterilizer urgently needed for people’s living.”
