DPRK state media reported on 17 December (Monday) that Communist Party of China [CPC] Secretary and Politburo Member Liu Yunshan led a group of senior CPC and PRC Government officials on an official visit to the DPRK Embassy in Beijing in commemoration of the one year anniversary of the death of Kim Jong Il.  The Chinese visiting party delivered floral baskets on behalf of the CPC Central Committee International Liaison Department, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of National Defense and the DPRK-China Friendship Association.  Liu Yunshan met with DPRK Ambassador to China Ji Jae Ryong.  He asked Ji “to convey to Kim Jong Un deep condolences and warm greetings of General Secretary Xi Jinping and the CPC Central Committee and the Chinese government” and “expressed the belief that the relations between the two parties and two countries would grow stronger in the future.”  According to KCNA Liu also said that:

Upon the authorization of the C.C., CPC, they have visited the DPRK embassy to lay floral baskets and express deep reverence for Kim Jong Il, the great leader of the Korean people and close friend of the Chinese people, on the first anniversary of his demise.

Kim Jong Il is always alive in the hearts of the peoples of the two countries as he devoted himself to the Korean revolution and construction and people’s happiness and made a historic contribution to the development of the Sino-DPRK relations of friendship with immense enthusiasm.

We are pleased that the Korean people have achieved great successes in building a thriving nation under the leadership of the Workers’ Party of Korea headed by Comrade Kim Jong Un over the past one year since the passing of Comrade Kim Jong Il.

The new collective leadership of China with Xi Jinping as general secretary highly values the traditional Sino-DPRK friendship. The Sino-DPRK friendship forged and developed by the revolutionaries of the elder generation is unshakable.

The CPC Central Committee also sent a memorial message to the Korean Workers’ Party [KWP] Central Committee.  According to KCNA the message said:

Comrade Kim Jong Il in his lifetime worked heart and soul to further develop the traditional China-DPRK friendship and fully promoted the development of Sino-DPRK relations while maintaining close friendship with the Chinese leaders.

The Chinese party and people will always remember him.

We are pleased that the Korean people turned sorrow into strength, united close around the Central Committee of the WPK headed by First Secretary Kim Jong Un and have achieved fresh and admirable successes in every field of socialist construction over the past one year, true to the last instructions of Kim Jong Il.

It is the invariable policy of the Chinese party and government to steadily develop the Sino-DPRK relations of friendship and cooperation.

The new collective leadership of the CPC highly values the traditional Sino-DPRK friendship provided and cultivated by the leaders of elder generations of the two parties and countries.

We will, together with the DPRK side, further consolidate, build and develop the traditional friendship between the two parties and the two countries and thus make positive contributions to promoting welfare of the two peoples and defending peace and stability of the region.
