DPRK state media reported on 6 August (Tuesday) that Kim Jong Un (Kim Cho’ng-u’n) toured the renovation of the Pyongyang Indoor Stadium and visited the construction of apartments for scientists. Among those in attendance for the visits were VMar Choe Ryong Hae (Director of the Korean People’s Army General Political Department), Hwang Pyong So (Deputy [vice] Director of the Korean Workers’ Party [KWP] Organization Guidance Department) and Ma Won Chun (Deputy [vice] KWP Department Director). Kim Jong Un’s last observed appearance was his attendance at a Moranbong Band concert with participants in the 27 July anniversary parade.
After looking at the renovation work at Pyongyang Indoor Stadium, Kim Jong Un “was greatly satisfied to hear that the builders have carried out all work 90 percent in a matter of less than five months since they started the project” and he “underscored the need to build the stage better as it is used as a platform when holding conferences and other events and as spectators’ seats during sports games.” Whilst looking at the venue and seating Kim Jong Un said that it “is important for renovating it is to provide the best convenience to people and school youth and children visiting it to watch matches” and said “a large electronic display should be installed not only on the side of the stadium but in the middle part of the ceiling of the stadium to be visible from all sides so that the spectators may closely watch the scores and games” and called “for developing Korean way a program for operating the electronic displays to be controlled by computers.” According to KCNA Kim Jong Un said that “the Pyongyang Indoor Stadium is a building with a long history,” stressed “the need to set a high standard and renovate it at the highest level” and “expressed expectation and conviction that the builders and officials of the relevant field engaged in the renovation work would successfully carry out their honorable tasks till the 65th anniversary of the DPRK.”
Kim Jong Un also toured the construction of 21 blocks of apartment buildings reserved for scientists which KCNA described as “near completion” and being characteristic of the “speed of Masik Pass [Masikryo’ng],” a current labor mobilization speed campaign. He toured two model apartments and inspected kitchen and restroom fixtures, furniture and the apartments’ interior design. According to KCNA he “told officials to fully provide all conditions so that scientists may bring with them only their personal belongings and articles for living liked by them when moving to new flats” and said that “apartment houses for scientists have been well designed and constructed at a high level” and that “he is satisfied with them and they look fashionable and impeccable.” He also “called for dynamically pushing forward tree planting, creating turf and other work for greening and pavement of walk path.” Kim Jong Un also toured the construction of the apartment complex’s hospital, schools, day care centers and other facilities. He “stressed the need to press ahead with the construction as scheduled” and “underscored the need to build the district of the apartment houses for scientists in such a way that it may be a model in building residential quarters.” According to KCNA Kim Jong Un said ” the day of the completion of the apartment houses for scientists is drawing close thanks to the efforts of the builders.”
