A meeting was held on July 14 (Thursday) to mark the 30th anniversary of the establishment of the Pyongyang Information Technology Bureau.  It was attended by Choe T’ae Bok (Workers’ Party of Korea [WPK] Vice Chairman for Science and Education and Chairman of the Supreme People’s Assembly) along with cadres and employees of the IT bureau.  According to the anniversary report, the Pyongyang IT Bureau “plays a vanguard role in developing the nation’s IT industry and has an important mission to perform in building a knowledge-based economic power.  Leader Kim Jong Il (Kim Cho’ng-il) paid attention to the work of the bureau, indicated the orientation and ways of developing IT on an independent foundation and inspired its scientists and technicians to make an uninterrupted lead forward.  Founded on July 15, 1986, the bureau has grown to be a dependable IT center equipped with competent IT talens and modern research facilities under the leadership of the party and the leaders for the past 30 years.  By combining scientific research with production it has made a great contribution to putting the national economy on an IT basis.”
