An army-people solidarity rally marking the sixth anniversary of the artillery shelling of Yo’npyo’ng Island was held in Kangryo’ng County on November 23 (Wednesday). Attending the rally were IV Army Corps Commander Lieutenant-General Ri Song Guk [Ri So’ng-kuk], South Hwanghae Workers’ Party of Korea [WPK] Provincial Committee Chairman Pak Yong Ho [Pak Yo’ng-ho], Kangryo’ng County WPK Commitee Chairman Kim Pong Hun [Kim Pong-hun], along with citizens of South Hwanghae Province and Korean People’s Army [KPA] service members and officers, some of whom participated in the 23 November 2010 artillery shelling that killed four and injured 19 ROK nationals in addition to widespread damage.
At the start of the event, citizens of Kangryo’ng presented congratulatory floral bouquets and garlands to the KPA service members and officers who “displayed their valor in the Yo’npyo’ng Island shelling.” In his speech, Lieutenant-General Ri Song Guk said that the “brilliant victory in the Yo’npyo’ng Island shelling was the great event which fully displayed over the world the matchless stamina of the heroic Korean People’s Army under the leadership of the great brilliant So’ngun [military-first] commanders and recorded a page of proud victory of war in the history So’ngun [military-first] Korea. Congratulatory and commemorative speeches were also delivered by Kim Pong Hyon, KPA officer Ri Hyon Myon, KPA officer Kim Ryong Jin and 1st Secretary of the Kangryo’ng County Youth League Committee. After the speaking program, performances were given by a KPA art propaganda squad and a Kangryo’ng County itinerant art propaganda squad.
